Example: It's hard to appreciate how difficult the job is until you try it yourself.

Example: Thanks so much for your help! I really appreciate the gift.

If something appreciates, its value increases.

Example: It is amazing how much the value of my house has appreciated. Hopefully, it will continue to increase, as I am thinking of selling it in five to ten years.
