A counterfeit is a fake made from an original item.

Example: That Rolex is a counterfeit because it does not have the original company name stamped on the band like they are in real Rolexes.

If something is counterfeit, it is meant to deceive people into thinking it is the real thing.

If something is counterfeited, it is made to look like the original thing, or to make it look like an official or valid thing.
