guess

If you guess at something, you try to imagine what it might be, but you don't know the answer.

Example: "What happened? Why has play stopped?" "I don't know. I guess a player's hurt, maybe."

A guess is an answer that you give when you don't know the real answer.

Example: "Wow, what a great car! How much do you think it costs?" "My guess is around $80,000."
