If you hear something, you use your ears to get a sound from it.

Example: Are you hearing the music clearly enough, or must I make it louder?

The act of hearing or the quality of being able to hear.

Example: I'm worried about my son's hearing -- maybe his ears were hurt by music that was too loud.

A trial in a court of law or another kind of event where a group listens to people and makes a formal decision.

Example: Next week I have an immigration hearing to decide whether I can stay in this country.
