Panic is a very strong and overwhelming fear which dominates thinking.

Example: When he yelled "fire!" a panic went through the crowd and suddenly people were yelling and pushing to get out.

To feel strong, overwhelming fear.

Example: I'm panicking about the test tomorrow. It's half of our final grade and I haven't even started studying yet.
