When someone respects another person that means they think the other person is worthy, responsible, strong or other good qualities.

Example: I have great respect for him and I'm sure he'll do well in life.

Respect is to treat someone in a considerate, genuine and nice manner or to treat one thing or one person with highest regard.

Example: He always respects my feelings.

When someone respects a thing or a person it means they follow rules and don't touch things they shouldn't touch.

Example: Please respect things that belong to other people when you're in their house.

If you have respect for someone, that means you have high regard for them; you are considerate towards them.

Example: I have great respect for all of my classmates.
