sign

A flat thing with a few words or pictures on it to tell people something.

Example: I saw a stop sign, so I stopped the car.

When someone signs a piece of paper, they write their signature on it.

Example: They signed a contract saying exactly who would do the work and how much money they would be paid.

If a company signs someone, they hire them to work.
